Coyote Ugly 30k & 50k
The Coyote Ugly 30k and 50k is a trail race that will take place in the beautiful Cohutta Wilderness March 2, 2024. The race starts and finishes at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp in Ellijay, Ga. The route for each distance starts the same way by following gravel road for almost 2 miles before you climb up Pinhoti 2 for 4 miles ending at a gravel forest service road that brings you to your first aid station. You’ll follow the gravel for less than a mile before your climbing again on Pinhoti 1. Pinhoti 1 is almost 4 miles long and takes you to the Bear Creek section of trail. A quick .2 mile out and back takes you to your next aid stop before you climb to the top of Bear Creek crossing several creeks (if you’re careful, your feet can stay dry). Once you’re to the top, you’ll find an aid station before the two distances split. 30k runners will descend gravel back to Mulberry Gap passing by Bear Creek overlook and Barnes Creek Falls with a total distance of approximately 19 miles and 2900 ft of climbing. 50k runners will descend gravel for .5 miles before hopping back on the Bear Creek trail to the left and looping around the back side of Bear Creek on rolling double track. You’ll come back through the trail head aid station before you head back up Pinhoti 1 and follow gravel forest service road back to Pinhoti 2 through the last aid stop and back to Mulberry Gap for a total of 30 miles and 4400 feet of climbing.
Alright! Let’s talk nitty gritty:
Cut Offs and Aid Station Fare.
We want this race to be a little hard but we also want the race to be beginner friendly. We hope to have a 100% finish rate. With that in mind, we will have a 10 hr cut off for the 50k and a 7 hour cut off for the 30k. That means you need to maintain a 20 min mile overall to finish in time. You can see the aid station cut offs and approximate mileage above.
Aid Stations:
Our aid stations will have typical ultra fare. Water, electrolytes (Tailwind), chips, gummy bears/worms, pb&j, grilled cheese/quesadillas (at the top of bear creek), BACON, candy, coke, ginger ale, pickles/juice and maybe a few more surprises.
We will be providing tailwind on course thanks to their generosity!! For more information about their products please visit : https://tailwindnutrition.com
Volunteers :
Anyone volunteering to sweep, run an aid station, or help at the finish will be rewarded with free race entry into a future race and swag! We can’t put on the race without volunteers so we want to thank them appropriately
